How to get a car accident report in Alaska

The short answer
You can request a copy of an Alaska State Troopers crash report online through the Department of Public Safety records portal. Most police report requests have no fee, and you will be contacted first if one applies. A driver must report a crash right away to local police or the Alaska State Troopers if anyone is hurt or killed, or if total property damage looks like it is $2,000 or more.
Which agency has your report
The report comes from the agency whose officer came to the crash. On interstates and state highways that is usually the state police or highway patrol. On city streets it is the city police, and outside city limits it is often the county sheriff. Ask the officer for the report number before you leave the scene.

Your reporting duties
When you must report to police
A driver must report a crash right away to local police or the Alaska State Troopers if anyone is hurt or killed, or if total property damage looks like it is $2,000 or more.

Whether you must file your own report
If the crash involves an injury, a death, or about $2,000 or more in damage, the driver must also send a written or electronic crash report to the Alaska Department of Administration within 10 days, unless a police officer already investigated and filed the report.
